Overview
Ledger Live is the official application developed by Ledger® that lets users manage cryptocurrencies stored on Ledger® hardware wallets. The app is available as Ledger Live Desktop for Windows, macOS, and Linux, and as a mobile Ledger Live App for iOS and Android. Ledger Live does account tracking, transaction signing (via your device), app management on the device, and portfolio monitoring.
Download & Install
Always download Ledger Live from the official Ledger® website. Choose desktop or mobile depending on your workflow. For desktop, choose the correct OS installer. For mobile, install from the official app store. Verify file signatures and avoid third-party download pages.
Login & Connection
Ledger Live authenticates actions by communicating with your physical Ledger® device — there’s no cloud-stored private key. To connect: open Ledger Live, attach your Ledger® device (or pair via Bluetooth if supported), unlock it with your PIN, and open the appropriate app on the device (e.g., Bitcoin app) to allow Ledger Live to detect accounts.
Troubleshooting: common issues and fixes
- Ledger login not working: ensure your device PIN is correct and the device firmware and Ledger Live versions are current. Reboot your host machine and device.
- Error connecting Ledger account: swap USB cable/port, disable USB hubs, and close browser extensions or software that may block USB/Bluetooth.
- Ledger Live app not working on mobile: update the app, restart the phone, and toggle Bluetooth permissions if pairing fails.
- Can't verify Ledger wallet: always confirm addresses on the device screen — Ledger Live can display an address, but the true verification is the on-device prompt.
- Unable to Ledger Trezor: Ledger® and Trezor use different devices and ecosystems; use each manufacturer’s official apps for their hardware.
Account recovery & 2FA
Recovery requires the recovery phrase (24-, 25- or 12-word depending on device). Ledger® never asks for your seed. If you lose your device, use the recovery phrase to restore on a new Ledger® device or another compatible wallet. There is no Ledger-specific "2FA reset" for the seed—2FA applies to online services and should be handled through those services’ support flows.
When to contact Ledger Help Center
If hardware shows persistent faults, device fails firmware updates, or you observe unexpected transactions, collect logs and contact the Ledger Help Center. Do not share your recovery phrase with support — Ledger® will never request it.
FAQs
- How do I safely download Ledger Live?
- Only from the official Ledger® website or official app stores. Verify URLs and file signatures where provided.
- My Ledger Live can't detect my device — what should I try?
- Try a different USB cable/port, enable developer mode for USB accessories (on mobile when needed), update firmware, and restart both devices.
- Can I recover my accounts without Ledger Live?
- Yes — using your recovery phrase with another compatible wallet or a new Ledger® device will restore access to funds.
- Is it safe to use Bluetooth Ledger devices?
- Bluetooth is designed for convenience and includes encryption — but many users prefer wired connections for added caution. Choose what matches your security needs.
- Why does Ledger Live show a different balance?

Pro tip: Always verify transaction details on your Ledger® device screen — the hardware is the ultimate source of truth.
